Synopsis
This film is about Xiao Xue, a young Chinese woman who comes to Hawaii to live with her distant cousin Lin. Xiao Xue gets involved in an abusive relationship with Lin and becomes pregnant with his child, but can't find the courage to tell him for fear that he will abandon her. When Lin cheats his boss and is hunted down by tough gangster Mark, he and Xiao Xue flee to a small island hideout near Sand Island where Xiao Xue meets Leilani, a young, neglected local girl who reminds Xiao Xue of herself as a child. Through their interactions and as a result of Lin's increasingly abusive behavior, Xiao Xue finds the courage to extract herself from her abusive relationship in a most surprising way.

Background of the Film
The script for this film was written by director Jay Hubert for a screenwriting class at the University of Hawaii Manoa's Academy for Creative Media (ACM). The ACM is UH's new film school, founded on the idea of utilizing new digital technologies to promote local and indigenous filmmaking and animation projects. In the two years since its founding, ACM has grown tremendously, now offering over twenty courses by an award-winning faculty. ACM student projects have been winning acclaim at film festivals throughout the country and internationally. This film is being shot as an ACM independent production class assignment, using ACM equipment. The entire crew consists of ACM students, and the two principal cast members are both from UH (one student, one alumnus). A professional casting call was held to recruit the cast, and crew members were selected from among the best ACM has to offer.
